Here’s what you need to know about Metro PCS

MetroPCS – The power of innovation
MetroPCS was initially called General Wireless when it was set up in the year 1994 by Malcolm Lorang and Roger D. Linguist. Both of the founders were executives with the wireless provider PageMart Wireless before they banded together to launch their own carrier services.

MetroPCS is essentially a wireless, prepaid service in the USA that works as a part of T-Mobile US, Inc.

The company offers text, talk and data services across the nation on the basis of the selected plans using networks such as 4G LTE networks, HSPA, GSM and HSPA+.

It also added a range of MetroPCS new phones to its services following its success as a telecommunications giant.

Using CDMA (code division multiple access) technology, MetroPCS operated the sixth largest mobile telecommunications network in the United States.  On June 21, 2015, the ground breaking MetroPCS CDMA network was decommissioned and the 4G network using LTE technology was proposed to be integrated with the US based T-Mobile US’ self-owned 4G LTE network, along with the metroPCS new phones.

The launch of the LTE network by MetroPCS received mixed reviews, because despite being based on 4G technology, the speeds being maintained worked better for the old 3G networks, as observed by experts.

It was not until October 2012 that MetroPCS Communications arrived at an agreement to join hands and merge with T-Mobile USA, Inc. This deal was thought to “help the competing provider become more competitive with the other National Carriers”. After the merger with T-Mobile, a national level campaign was launched by MetroPCS with nationwide ads that ran with a controversial ‘Period Power’ tagline. The advertisements aimed to showcase the transparency offered by the carrier services in the form of no hidden fees in any prepaid plans, but were unfortunately trolled on social media, along with the metro PCS new phones.
