Today, becoming a nail technician or a nail art instructor is a popular career choice for many artistic people who want a career in the cosmetic industry.

Enroll in a nail technician school
Some program options that you have for becoming a nail technician includes doing a certificate course, an associate degree, or an apprenticeship program in manicuring.

How to plan a career as a nail technician
In these programs, you learn about the safety precautions that you need to take while doing your client’s nails and basic knowledge about hand and foot diseases that you should be aware of. Other than you get a hands-on experience in manicuring, giving a pedicure, and nail extension services.
Some nail technician school also go ahead and give you a hair and makeup training.

Apply for a license
Once you complete your education in nail manicure from a nail technician school or a community college, you are eligible to apply for a state license. Typically, you need to have 600 hours of training to apply for the state license. You will have to prepare for both written as well as a practical exam to acquire the state license. Once you pass the state license, you can legally work as a nail technician in any salon in the country.

Get work experience
Your learning journey as a nail technician does not end once you get your license. Work experience is of utmost importance in this field. In fact, in some states, if you have a work experience as a nail technician, then it can substitute as a part of the education and you will get some extra credit points. After this, you can consider opening your own nail salon and hire nail artists to work for you.

Once you have become a nail technician, you have the option of studying further, obtaining an instructor license and becoming a manicure instructor.
