Know the Causes of Middle Back Pain

The middle back region of our body consists of several vertebrae, ligaments, muscles and more importantly, 12 spinal disks. Any irritation or damage to these structures will lead to middle back pain. There are a number of middle back pain causes. Let’s have a closer look at them.

Arthritis
Arthritis is one of the main middle back pain causes. There are several types of arthritis and some of them can affect your back.

Know the Causes of Middle Back Pain
One such type of arthritis is ankylosing spondylitis. Pain and stiffness are two of its major symptoms. After a certain period of time, it can cause your vertebrae to fuse together and this might have a serious impact on your posture and mobility.

Fractured vertebrae
Fractured vertebrae are also one of the main middle back pain causes. As a result of a sports injury or a car crash, there can be a fractured bone in the vertebrae, which leads to middle back pain. If your spine deteriorates at a rapid pace due to osteoarthritis, it can cause a fractured vertebra.

Herniated disks
The shock-absorbing cushions of the body are the disks located between the vertebrae. These disks are filled with liquid and can get ruptured. This rupture of the disks is known as a herniated disk, ruptured disk, or slipped disk. It can put pressure on the surrounding nerves, thereby causing pain in the middle back portion of the body.

Kidney problems
Kidney problems can also be one of the middle back pain causes. Kidneys are located just underneath and on either side of the spine. Some of the common reasons for kidney pains are infections and stones. The symptoms of kidney problems include:

  • Difficulty while urinating
  • Pain while urinating
  • Nausea or vomiting

Lifestyle
Your lifestyle also plays a major role in causing middle back pain. If you are not someone who exercises regularly, then you will have weak muscles. That is why having a physically active lifestyle can really help you to avoid this pain. Also, people with wrong lifting techniques can face this problem.

Aging
Back pain is a normal condition for individuals above the age of 30. However, middle back pain can happen to people of any age group due to reduced muscle mass, thinning of bones, and lack of fluid between spinal joints.

So, these are some of the causes of middle back pain. If you are experiencing this pain as well, then you should consult a doctor without a delay.
